50 years of Indian Television
It was in1959 that the Indian television was discovered which had only
the Doordarshan (DD) channel. It was then only under the Government’s
control. Now many private channels have come in. Even national and
international channels are being broadcasted to almost all parts of
the nation. Thus the Indians developed in the Department of Media
and Communications.
Now India is celebrating the discovery of Indian television after 50
years, a special occasion indeed! The Indian Institute of Advanced
Studies, Shimla, India has arranged for a conference on celebrating
the golden jubilee of Indian Television. It was on July 19-20, 2009,
in the seminar, various papers were presented about the research
works, improvements and other plans made for improvement.
From just the repetition of the same old cartoons ‘Jungle Book’ and
‘Aladdin’, Indian television has started propagating world famous Walt
Disney cartoons and other productions. Besides, any natural calamity
or terrorist attack occurring in any part of the World is
live-telecasted. Even the routine life of animals and more stunningly
the blooming of flowers in some south African forest or north African
desert or the poles of arctic or Antarctic are also captured on a
video and spread via air and optics (laid even under-water) are being
enabled to watch on the same settee where we sit and read the
newspapers. Only difference between the both is the time taken! In
this present world, DTH connections are gaining popularity.
GPRS-enabled Mobile phones are also connected to a television box and
enjoyed on a broader screen.
The next generation television is the (IPTH internet protocol-TH)
wherein network connection is transmitted partly and that facilitates
saving up the once missed program or some TV serial for up to three
months in the television itself and watching them whenever time
permits. This facility also permits forwarding and rewinding options
for any TV program! What a Wonder! Satellite works!!!
Would Indian brains just stop with that? I don’t think so. A time
would come when even the papers presented for Nobel prizes would be
displayed on video-conference on television! So let the knowledge and
information widen and reach every nook and corner of the society, the
nation, till it satisfies what is necessary and help Indians stand
filled with knowledge essential!
