Do you think that India and Delhi are ready for the Commonwealth Games

The capital city of India, gears up for a sporting extravaganza slated for October next year. India in past have hosted only two games of this scale previously, the Asian Games- Delhi in 1982 and Afro Asian games- Hyderabad in 2003. Thousands of crores are invested in projects which are directly and indirectly related to the smooth and prestigious commencement of the Commonwealth Games 2010. These projects are related to power, both basic and non basic infrastructures, hospitality industries and various others which are related to them. With many of these projects are seem to be missing there deadlines, the mishaps happening at the construction sites, have surely raised up certain eyebrows.

Delhi won the chance to host these games back in 2003, at that time, it was facing the problem of electricity shortage, the pathetic and below standard states of out transport systems and airports, the problem of pollution was at its worse. It surely seems that we won't make it. Till now, with number of construction projects seem to be missing their deadlines. But now if you visit Delhi, you will notice the difference between now and 7 years back. It is having the largest area under green cover of all the metropolitans. The Metro network is already the longest in the country with another phase of construction to go. Major power cuts are now the thing of past, and few power plants coming up for the purpose. The modernisation of Indira Gandhi Airpot will be complete by next year. The stadia construction projects are running bit late, but surely will be completed by the time when they are required. A games village is being constructed and later it'll be used as a residential complex. An all out attempt has been made to make the city's environment clean n friendly.

One can never know his strength until he is challenged. India growing at 8%, it does not have the problem of capital investments, the problem has always been its judicious and efficient use. That's why, our ability to be a good host was never in question, coz since 2003, the capital was invested and the development began keeping in mind the Commonwealth games and its consequences. The air, the transport system, the infrastructure, it all improved because we had to accomplish something. A year hence, not only all the doubts will be removed, but also, will set an example to rest of the cities of the country.
