Will the relationship between India and Pakistan will ever improve
As philosopher Bertrand Russell quotes, "democracy is the process by which people choose the man who'll get the blame", India and Pakistan have been going through a plethora of dilemmatic situations for over half a century now. This leads us to wonder whether this seemingly improving relationship we see on spotlight is really how both countries intermingle.
Although we hear about modest peace talks and strengthening relationships on the diplomatic level, there are simultaneously groups of individuals who aim to break the ties by way of terrorist attacks, etc. When it seems like they are improving their relationship, a grenade lands between their paths to weaken ties of friendship.
Since the separation of Pakistan from India due to religious and political conflicts, and the ceaseless J&K dispute, a number of terrorist attacks have cropped up on Indian soil and in Indian embassies in neighbouring countries. These events have only deteriorated the relationship between the rival nations.
The first peace talks after the Mumbai attacks in 2008 took place this year on February 25th in Delhi. Alongside several discussions about territorial disputes and terrorist attacks, the nuclear-armed countries setup the meeting in order to "reduce tensions" and rebuild the relationship. Back in 1976, Samjhota Express between the India- Pakistan borders were built, and also the Delhi-Lahore bus service began in 1999 to break the fence and build friendly relations. However, only more disputes have taken place. In 2007, the train was bombed by terrorists. So, it is limpid that the governments of both countries are stepping up to re-create bonds, but the countries have realistically not enhanced relations at all levels.
The two countries have minor conflicts such as J & K, and religious separation, but the mounting issues are caused by political issues between both governments. India is a democratic nation while Pakistan is a military regime, where only the army makes political decisions. For this reason, we can come to a conclusion that the common people are against strengthening relations, because their opinions are not heard. To restore peace and security does not imply giving up all they have (J & K) - it is in India's right to stand up to its possessions and not be stepped upon.
Additionally, no materialistic possessions will be of value to end the tensions-the idea of power in politics is the iron hand inside a velvet glove of flowery peace talks. Pakistan and India have gone through turmoil which has strayed and confused citizens as to what is going on, but it is only mutual understanding and a collective vision that can practically improve bilateral relations between the neighbours.
