Are we ready for gay rights?

In today's era of modernization, the world is fast accepting changes in technology, work climate, culture and human behavior. To move with the pace of changing time a change in Law at regular intervals is also needed in order to maintain the freedom of the society. We-the people of India are always ready to debate about the issues of politics and caste but when it comes to discuss some bold issues like homosexuality, we either prefer to keep mum or try to hide them under the camouflage covers of our culture. The same has happened when the Delhi High Court has given a verdict eradicating section 377 of the Indian Penal Court. A majority of us has looked the matter with agony as if a crime has been committed against the rules of the world. The so called bearers and caretakers of the society rules expressed in a manner as if India is the first country to outlaw such a pre historic article.

In the context of the heading I am very sorry to say, we are still not ready to accept the gay rights in the prevailing Indian Society. A long journey still needs to be covered. We still live in a world where a person having a homosexual behavior is considered sick and people see him with doubt. Being a gay is considered a taboo and the society wants them to be kept hidden under covers. The parents don't want to disclose the identity of their child in order to protect them and the family from curse and indifference.

To accept the changes and gay community as the equal member of society, the very basic needs to be worked upon. A mass campaign needs to be held which should clearly spread the message to every Indian citizen that being gay is not a crime, neither is it any sickness. It is scientifically proven that it is a state of body which is not a new thing to have involved in the twenty first century. This physical and mental behavior exists from ages and our historical writings have evidences about the same. It is not a taboo and we should not outcast such people from us. This human behavior can occur with any one and we should treat them with respect. The pre conceived notion of gay thoughts being alienated from the influence of western culture should be falsify. Good sex education should be provided so as to bring light to the entire topic.

In the society we are living people are not willing to accept the fact that we are not the first country to make homosexuality legal, India is the 126th country in the world to do so. There are many extremists which challenge the verdict and produce evidences like it'll harm the institution of marriage and bring in change in the living patters of the society forgetting that the existing gay community has not come from outside but is the consequence of these thoughts prevailing in the society from long ago. Till the time they are practiced under covers and hidden, everyone is comfortable but as soon as it is spoken in open people tend to draw objections.

The theories produced by 'Jhoolachaps' like anal sex is not natural and the anal canal is not meant for conducting intercourse are all proven false by the medical science giving the correct explanation of the posture and method. The indications of the same are found in the cave paintings of Khajuraho. This clearly states that it is not something inhuman and against the ethos of the society. The correct knowledge needs to be transferred to the masses.

Homosexuality does not come by choice but it is natural and it is seen in all forms of life. Recently a survey on animals like Chimpanzees and Penguins also shown the traces of the same.At last it's just that we still are far behind the actual goal. A lot more needs to be done and we still are not prepared for the equal rights of gay. But it can be achieved by propagating good quality sex education and understanding the dual nature of the human behavior.
