Are we ready for gay rights?

For over millenniums several religions around the globe by constant experience have placed the noble relationship between men and women at the highest position and some have designated it equivalent to worship. The relation is not only religiously recognized but has proved itself on the moral grounds which are the fundamental base of existence of human race throughout these millenniums. Today we are vis-à-vis with a new concept of 'Homosexuality' whose acceptance by the Delhi high court has created an environment of debate all over the nation.

'Homosexuality' is a gift of modern times. Although we blame west for its origin but the very fact it has spread to every corner of the world insists the serious attention which it deserves to receive. Most of the countries unanimously accepted it and in some it was a hot topic of debate. Today in India we stand on a point where we have to choose any one among the rich cultural heritage which is a source of pride for every Indian and our respectable constitution of India. Justice has chosen the basis of its existence and now it is the turn of the society.

'Homosexuality' is described by many personalities as 'unnatural act', but my opinion lies on the fact that you cannot declare any act as unnatural just because it doesn't follow a particular set of conventional rules. If it is unnatural it shouldn't exist in very nature of human as it fails to do so in some cases. So the question shouldn't be about the naturality of the act, nor should be about the conventionality as conventions are meant to be broken. The main question should be about the morality of the act. The renowned scientist Darwin in his theory mentioned that existence and sustainability of any race or species depends mainly on three factors; physical being, intelligence but most importantly morality. The credit of existence of the human race for such a long time should be given to its morality. The new concept of 'Homosexuality' has to be treated on the moral basis and it is we who have to decide its moral validity.

Now days, homosexuality is treated as an identity rather than a behavior. In the current infrastructure of Indian society 'Homosexuals' are not given a respectable position, as a result there is something known as 'Secret practice of homosexuality'. The society has the onus whether to decide 'Homosexuality' as a curse for the society or its secret practice. Until a respectable position for the homosexuality is given in the society it will be nearly impossible to determine its' moral validity. Medical reports state that gayness is not a hormonal disorder but another type of sexual orientation. Hence society shouldn't hesitate to incorporate homosexuality as a problem can be treated by accepting it. Let us remember that no amount of laws and social restrictions can change the sexual orientation and thus are ineffective in curbing homosexuality.

Lessons can be learned from history which has witnessed various reforms which were reluctantly adopted by the society out of which some have proven a boon and some as bane. So we must be ready for the gay rights even though extremely inconvenient it appears on prima facie since truth has to be accepted no matter how much inconvenient. Let us leave the responsibility on time to test the moral validity of the acceptance and how beneficial will it be for the human race
