Effects on Children When Both Parents are Employed

The topic in question is of paramount importance in this modern age. As the age old saying goes..men are bread winners where as women are home makers. Except in the third world countries where conservatism is the buzz word..women from rest of the world are competing with their fellow men in every field. This healthy competition is a welcome sign and has transformed the society in an unimaginable way there by providing women with a level playing field. How ever there is long way to go for Indian women in particular. In present day scenario..what are the effects on children when both parents are employed ?

When both husband and wife are employed they stand to gain financially with multiple incomes. They are in much better position to support their children with quality education as it costs an arm and leg these days. It also opens up an array of possibilities which might be unthinkable with single income. It gives a sense of financial independence and secured post retirement life. Society as a whole benefits as both men and women pool their skills for the development of the country. Let us flip the coin and see how the children will be impacted when both parents are employed. Children are very special and need our utmost care in their formative years. They spend most of their time with parents, teachers and friends. Each of them play a significant role in shaping and moulding ones character. Parents in particular have to do a delicate balance of their duties as parent and also as working men and women. Irrespective of ones professional obligations that demand parents time and energy..it is equally important for them to take time to spend with thier children. Any negligence of children because of professional obligations will have adverse impact on these young minds. Sharing of every day experiences with children will give them a sense of togetherness there by helping them understand nuances of life. These seemingly insignificant acts will go a long way in personality building of children and also in passing on building blocks of institution called family to our next generations.

USA and Saudi Arabia are two ends of the family spectrum. In those parts of world where conservatism rules the roost (Saudi Arabia)..it is social taboo for women to be a bread winner. They are relgated to kitchen doors and upbringing of their children. Let us look at United States of America where women are competing with men in all walks of life but family as an institution is collapsed. There are myriad of reasons for this collapse which is beyond the scope of this topic. Our greatest strength as indians is an institution called family. It is in our interest not to downplay women like in Saudi Arabia and not to overplay it like USA. It is prudent to encourage female members of the family to work with out compromising the institution called family. This act of delicate balance will pay rich dividends to ones family and also to the society in general.
