Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC)
The Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC) has planned to start coaching classes for students aspiring to answer the IAS, IES, IPS exams conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Coaching classes for UPSC exams are rare in Goa unlike Mumbai, Delhi and other places where such training classes are common. Chairman of the GEDC, M K Shaikh while speaking to Herald said, "There is no training facility for these competitive exams in Goa.
The GEDC intends to provide this training facility."
"If such classes click in Goa and if the candidates attending the classes make it through the UPSC exams, the classes will be a success," opined Arvind Bhatikar, IAS (retd) and former chairman of the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).
This proposal of the GEDC is in the final stage, according to Shaikh. GEDC had appointed a three-member committee to plan the coaching classes, according to Shaikh. The GEDC is in the process of setting up the premises for the coaching classes along with a hostel at Porvorim, according to Shaikh.
Once the infrastructure is put in place, the GEDC will invite applications and select 30 candidates for the training, according to Shaikh. Graduates and undergraduates doing their final year will be eligible to apply for the training programme, according to Shaikh.
For the convenience of those who are working and those doing their final year, the coaching classes will be held in the evening. This will give the selected candidates ample time to attend work or college during the day and attend the coaching classes in the evening, according to Shaikh.
