In the post independence era, India as a nation has neglected physical culture and sports. Sadly, we are rated as a nation of weaklings. Which, bores of mythological character like Bheema and Hanuman, which are parallel to Hercules. For many decades India's performance was dismal in Olympics. We are 20% of the global population but we never win medals at international sports events like Olympics, commonwealth games and Asian games.

There are still many debates going on about what is important(mental and physical) for achieving success. Majority of people will argue that mental strength is important, and a small minority will say physical strength. But, in my opinion they are like two blades of scissors.

We can't cut the paper with a single single blade. Mental and physical strength are like two blades of scissors. We can't achieve any success without them.

Firstly, we have to know what mental and physical strength, and how they can contribute to our success?

Physical strength is the measure of a human's excretion of force on physical objects. We have to do vigorous exercise and practice yoga to make us physically fit. Physical strength in fact leads to mental strength.

But, most of us will neglect physical strength. Not getting enough physical activity can lead to heart disease risk factors, including obesity, high blood pressure etc…

According to world health organization(WHO) in the year 2020 it be 158 million obese children in the world. In fact, after China, India have the most number of obese children at 27,481,141 or 27 million, the US at 17 million. “A sick man can never be happy, an obese man can never be a healthy man”. I can say that obesity is like a disease. So an obese man can never be happy and healthy.

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA said that “this world is a great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong”. “We will be nearer to heaven through football than through the study of gita”.

He said that we will be closer to heaven through physical strength than mental strength.

I am not saying that mental strength is insignificant. But, we will be able to achieve mental strength through physical strength. If we practice yoga and exercise our mind will be able to concentrate on things. So, I will say that physical strength is the bedrock to mental strength.

Then, what is mental strength? How can we achieve it through concentration? And how can it contribute to success?

Through physical strength we will be able to concentrate. Then, we get concentration. We can easily learn many things. SWAMI VIVEKANANDA said that “concentration is the essence of all knowledge, nothing can be done without it. In olden days, people used to be physically fit, and healthy. Because of this they use it to achieve great laurels. And they like physically fit, mentally strong, intellectually bright and spiritually evolved.

But, today in our so called intellectual mind believes that physical strength has no use. And we have adapted to sedentary life. Through this sedentary life our mind imprinted the feeling that physical strength is a SQUANDER. And we can achieve success through mental strength.

Hence, in my opinion physical and mental strength both are interconnected to success. We will be unable to achieve success with one.
