Tarkunde committee on minimum age of voting

Views: 9163- Jayprakash Narayan on behalf of the Citizens For Democracy had appointed a committee to study and report on scheme for electoral reforms in 1974 under the chairmanship of V.M. Tarkunde (hence, known as JP Committee or Tarkunde Committee). It submitted the report in 1975.
- Besides other recommendations, the Committee recommended that the minimum age of voting should be 18 years.
- Consequently, it was enacted by the 61st Amendment Act of 1988.
