Democracy being the vehicle of people's opinion needs to be assertive of its requirements. After the swearing in of the 15th Lok Sabha, the entire nation is looking forward for the functioning of the newly elected Members of Parliament, especially the young parliamentarians. The future of India is in the hands of young people, opine revivalists. But the big question of the million people and the senior politicians is, how well the 34 young MPs perform their duties.

When a candidate decides politics as the career, they should apprehend that their electoral victory is people's expectations entrusted on them. The 15th Lok Sabha election result reveals that people have now build hope that the young population will bring in the required change for good governance. The 34 young parliamentarians have to take a lead and make the nation realize that youth is not only blissful but also responsible.

When one is young, ideas of outside world and the effect one can have on take precedence over everything else. Their education and awareness can create that impact, by taking decisions that best suit the new order of world. They can cope with the change that endures globally with the knowledge they possess. Active participation and mobilization can be high among young people in comparison with age old MPs.

As the saying goes, the young men are apt to think they are wise enough, as the drunken men are apt to think they sober enough. Therefore the attitude of the young parliamentarians is important. A close look at the performance of 14th Lok Sabha reveals that the older MPs were far more active than younger ones, as the latter participating in the least in the Lok Sabha proceedings. Their performance is also questioned, when the incident like that of Milind Deora, when he was to ask a question, he started a speech and quickly opposition jeered at his immaturity. This shows that lack of experience causes havoc.

The representation of the young parliamentarians has a major role in the politico-administrative functions. A close look at profile of 34 MPs reveals that being a home of world's youngest population there are slim chances of a young man or woman, entering parliament if he or she is not from a political family. Of the 34 MPs only 8 (23.5%) found their way due to some suave political selection without consideration for pedigree or criminal capabilities.

Therefore corruption and criminalization should not become order of the family in the parliament. When the sting operations reveal the fraudulence of MPs, it should create awareness among public and politicians the real situation of the Indian political system. There should not be any future incidence of young parliamentarians taking this as example and consider politics as an instrument to become wealthy over a period of time.

But we cannot conclude that the young parliamentarians cannot contribute to the nation building. Some examples like enterprising Sachin Pilot and Navin Jindal who contributed more than bargained for could be quoted. But they required to be tuned finely to suit the need of parliamentary democracy. Every year when young candidates are recruited for civil services and bestowed with stupendous administrative task, it is only the selection process and training enables them to carry on their duty.

This can be followed in political selection also. Therefore chances should be given to graduates from various disciplines to contest election and the training to carry on their duty. Every ministry should consist of a senior politician and senior civil servant to guide the young MPs. This can give the youth of our country a chance to be the part of good governance and of nation building.
