The 2009 Lok Sabha elections' results of the world's largest democracy bore a promise of change, and are seen as 'The Arrival Of Youth'. The new government held the reins of the country last month with a number of young faces in the parliament and that became the cry of the hour. But as we all know, the initial excitement and intrigue dies down over time and people concentrate in getting real results. So, at the moment, comes this crucial question of whether these young guns can truly propagate a season of change in Indian political scenario.

The new government, somewhat defied the common cliché of young people being allergic to politics. There are 13 cabinet ministers who are forty or younger and as many as 34 young members in the ruling government. But the primary thing that requires to be seen in the coming years is how they tend to the betterment of our country's governance.

Leadership can be thought of as a capacity to define oneself to others in a way that clarifies and expands a vision of the future. The new leaders have, most certainly, zeal to make changes. We can take the works of Naveen Jindal and Sachin Pilot in their own spheres for example. They have a capacity to reach to people and work with them.

The incident of Rahul Gandhi visiting a remote village of his constituency with the British Foreign Secretary may arouse cynicism, but that in a way reflects Gandhi's intention to work in the grassroots level and perhaps it is his way of making people realizes the potential and strength of rural India. He definitely has struck the right chord of improving Indian villages, empowering which can bring about significant changes in Indian economy and growth as a whole. Mahatma Gandhi described leadership as the capacity of getting along with people and our young leaders are proving capable of that.

The new leaders have come with a package of education, intelligence, generosity and attitude. All these can prove beneficial for modern India. The only thing that they apparently lack is experience, which they may well gather by being thoughtful and reflective in the works that they will do in the future. The reason for which the mass of our country has lost faith in politicians is because of their lazy, self-centered and, in some cases, corrupts nature. With these fresh faces, we definitely have a chance to hope anew. The present Indian politics is a case of management challenge to the new leaders.

Their intelligence and energy makes a good path for gathering an experience of taking the country to a new high of overall development. The new leaders of our country should keep in mind the high expectations of Indians riding on them. Contrary to being allergic to politics, they should lead the Young India to become combative towards crime, laziness and moral degradation which corrupt the power of the country. We should also remember that in a democracy we choose our leaders from ourselves. So, in addition to expect change from the leadership of the government, we should also change ourselves from within and rise above the immoralities and corruption as well.

I put the closing words by quoting the person who is being regarded as the epitome of change in the modern world, US President Barack Obama. In his words: "Ultimately, if people are paying attention, then we get good government and good leadership. And when we get lazy, as a democracy and civically we start taking shortcuts, then it results in bad government and politics." We hope that India will rise to a new future by a good balance of experience and energy, provided well by senior and young leaders of the government but at the same time, we must not forget that the responsibility of a better India lies as much with the people of India as her leaders.
